Recently I was on the Cocktails & Content Creation podcast, a new venture for me! It was exciting, as I got to talk with Kate and Jessie about some important content-related issues for businesses and brands.
Kate and Jessie are two hard-working women who started this podcast to share expert advice on creating “killer” content. Kate founded Fashionably Kate & Co. in 2017 and spends her days blogging about her travel and fashion passions, while Jessie is the owner of Jessie Wyman Photography and is focused on the visual side of content.
It was such a pleasure to be on their show and share my expertise while sipping on a (non-alcoholic) ginger beer! Something I loved about our discussion was how we talked about the importance of content for businesses.
Some key points include:
Brand awareness
Many brands can benefit from having a presence online, since people have more of an “out of sight, out of mind” approach to certain things. By marketing yourself or your business, you’re not only staying at the forefront of people’s feeds, but also showing to the world what you’re about, who you’re for, and why you do what you do. It’s a great way to showcase your brand in an authentic, consistent way, while also making people aware of your company.
SEO
This is not something to be overlooked, since SEO is such a vital key to content. It’s important to target the right keywords and demographics for your brand, and to bring in the right audience with best SEO practices. When you’re wanting your site to show up as one of the first results in certain search terms, research and strategy for SEO is a crucial tool. This can be achieved through blog content, website copy, and even your social media presence.
Relationship building
Engagement with your audience is always important, but it’s also about building relationships. These can be through partnerships, collaborations, or even just responding as your brand on your platforms in a way that shows you care about people on more than a surface level. Brands demonstrate credibility as well through their relationships and engagement, something people will take note of.
We also discussed the major mistakes when creating content, namely how to avoid them:
- The first mistake to avoid is not having a strategy. It’s not enough to publish content and share it on social media and hope for the best.
- The second mistake is not thinking about the user experience or leaving it as an afterthought. User experience is taking over from the “content is king” idea.
- The third content creation mistake is thinking you have to constantly be pumping out new content. Sometimes, you get better results simply by updating existing content.
The episode is live now if you want to give it a listen! It was a great opportunity to speak with some amazing, like-minded women who are also trying to make a positive shift in the content world. And as always, be sure to check out my content tips and tricks on my own blog, and maybe I’ll make another guest appearance on a future podcast!
